Mixed reality glasses that bring the pictures in a history textbook to life, with an option to read the text aloud.
Problem
According to Trouw, one in three young people does not enjoy reading, while school asks them to read every day. I looked at how mixed reality could make textbooks more engaging, starting with history.
Concept
With a HoloLens-like headset, the pictures in the textbook rise up as holograms. Teachers decide whether the app may read the text aloud, so children who read well keep practising and children with dyslexia get help.
Moving animations can distract from the text, so students control them with simple gestures. The prototype runs on a tablet as a stand-in for the headset.
